COVID-19 Notice

Preferred Elevator would like to assure our customers that we are taking all necessary steps to do our part in flattening the curve of COVID-19. We have developed a “No Family Contact” process for service, repairs and installations. Our Mechanic, who will be wearing a mask and gloves, will call you when we are at your front door and will discuss the issues or concerns you have with your unit. Our customer can then unlock the door, but there is no need to further greet the Mechanic or be present for the service, repair or installation. Please feel free to move to another part of the home while we are working. Final payment can be left for technician or can be done over the phone with our office.
We greatly appreciate your business during this time.

Sincerely,
Ken Gough

URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

Elevator Repair Or Elevator Replacement: Which Do You Need?

Elevator Repair Or Elevator Replacement: Which Do You Need?

Today, we’re going to help you decide if you’re better off getting an elevator repair or an elevator replacement.

Home elevators are very handy for getting people to the different floors of their home if they don’t have as much mobility as they once did. Now, while these elevators do wonders for people while they are functioning properly, there will come a time when they don’t function as they should. This will bring up the question of whether repairing or replacing your elevator is the right call. Today, we’re going to help you decide if you’re better off getting an elevator repair or an elevator replacement.

Consider Your Elevator’s Age

Between 20 and 25 years is what’s considered the lifespan of a home elevator. Now, this number doesn’t account for how much the elevator is used over its lifetime. This is why it’s better to consider how many times you’ve used your home elevator, as well as its age, to determine if its lifespan is at its end.

Since it’s not common for homeowners to keep a log of how many trips they’ve taken on their elevators, you’ll want to give your best estimate. Think about how long you’ve had the elevator, as well as how many trips you take on it per day. If your elevator is reaching that 20 or 25-year age, or it’s been used plenty of times, an elevator replacement may be better than a series of repairs over time. You can consult an elevator professional if you’re unsure of what decision to make in this situation.

The Technology is Outdated

Elevator technology is constantly advancing. There are always improvements being made to home elevators that help them extend their lifespans.

With this new technology, however, manufacturers are discontinuing certain elevator components. If your elevator is on the brink of not functioning anymore and you can’t get the pieces needed for a repair, you might need an elevator replacement in order to get your elevator modernized with all of the pieces that are currently being manufactured.

An elevator professional will be able to tell you if certain components are still being made or not. Knowing which you need and which ones are still being manufactured will help you with your final decision. If the needed pieces still exist, an elevator repair could work.

Think About the Repair Costs

Getting an elevator repair is cheaper upfront than an elevator replacement, but you also have to consider how often repairs are needed. The number and cost of repairs that are needed also plays a major role in your decision.

If you only need a few repairs to keep your elevator functioning for a long time, an elevator repair could be the better option. On the other hand, when you need many repairs, and you have to get repairs done constantly, it’s better for you to have an elevator replacement done for your home.
