COVID-19 Notice

Preferred Elevator would like to assure our customers that we are taking all necessary steps to do our part in flattening the curve of COVID-19. We have developed a “No Family Contact” process for service, repairs and installations. Our Mechanic, who will be wearing a mask and gloves, will call you when we are at your front door and will discuss the issues or concerns you have with your unit. Our customer can then unlock the door, but there is no need to further greet the Mechanic or be present for the service, repair or installation. Please feel free to move to another part of the home while we are working. Final payment can be left for technician or can be done over the phone with our office.
We greatly appreciate your business during this time.

Sincerely,
Ken Gough

URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

Shaftless Elevators: The Benefits and Facts

Shaftless Elevators Preferred Elevator

Shaftless elevators are compact residential elevators

Shaftless elevators are compact residential elevators. They take up minimal space so that even smaller homes can benefit from having a residential elevator. The installation is easy and doesn’t cause a lot of disruption since a shaft does not need to be constructed first. Shaftless elevators are a fan favorite because of their convenience. They also come in different sizes to benefit wheelchair and walker users. Allow us to elaborate more on some of the facts and benefits of having a shaftless elevator in your home.

Shaftless Elevators Design Features

This elevator’s design is one of the quickest elevators to install in a person’s home. The shaft-less design includes constant pressure, or “push and hold” buttons on the control panel and comes standard with safety devices and emergency switches. A dual winding drum moves the cab up and down. These elevators do have travel limitations, so if you have a two-story home, this is an ideal fit.

With its design being so compact, you can place this type of elevator almost anywhere in your home. A shaftless elevator also doesn’t require space for a machine room and you can opt for a partial enclosure if you want to house the elevator into a floor with existing walls. An example of this would be an elevator fitted into a pantry or closet. The most popular model is a shaftless elevator that has a guide rail system for the cab to travel on and a wall attachment to support the unit

How Safe is This Kind of Residential Elevator?

Very safe! These elevators operate by using constant pressure controls. For your shaftless elevator to work, you have to push the control button and hold it in the operating position. If you’re traveling and no longer hold on to the control button, the elevator will stop right away. Sensors situated at the top and bottom of this lift will detect any issues, ensuring a safe ride. The cab doors also have an interlock feature that ensures the elevator doesn’t move unless the doors are closed and locked correctly. You don’t have to miss out on a single safety feature that other residential elevators have when you select a shaftless elevator.

The Benefits, in a Nutshell

Shaftless elevators are:

  • Compact but able to accomodate wheelchairs and walkers
  • Feasible to install in places with open floor plans
  • Cost-effective (no machine room equals lower costs)
  • Easy to install quickly (no shaft or machine room means less installation time)
  • Convenient for anyone with mobility issues
