COVID-19 Notice

Preferred Elevator would like to assure our customers that we are taking all necessary steps to do our part in flattening the curve of COVID-19. We have developed a “No Family Contact” process for service, repairs and installations. Our Mechanic, who will be wearing a mask and gloves, will call you when we are at your front door and will discuss the issues or concerns you have with your unit. Our customer can then unlock the door, but there is no need to further greet the Mechanic or be present for the service, repair or installation. Please feel free to move to another part of the home while we are working. Final payment can be left for technician or can be done over the phone with our office.
We greatly appreciate your business during this time.

Sincerely,
Ken Gough

URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

How to Decide on the Right Size For Your Home Elevator

How to Decide on the Right Size For Your Home Elevator

There are many factors that affect the dimensions of your home elevator, and we want to share these factors with you today.

There are homes in all different sizes and shapes. Some have one floor, while others have many, and if your home is in the latter category, you’ll need a way to get to each floor your house has, no matter what stage of life you are in. If it’s not easy getting up and down stairs, a home elevator can be a great alternative.

If you’ve already decided on installing one, there is one big question to be addressed: what size should the elevator be? There are many factors that affect the dimensions of your home elevator, and we want to share these factors with you today.

How Much Space is in Your House?

Naturally, a home elevator needs to fit nicely inside of your home. But there’s much more than the car itself that has to fit inside. There also has to be a wall capable of holding  the elevator’s rail structure and other mechanical components. On top of that, you need to measure out all of your elevator’s operating components, ensuring that they can operate safely and according to all applicable guidelines.

Think About the Dimensions of Your Home Elevator

Now comes the part when you have to factor the size of the elevator platform itself into the equation. It’s the toughest element to factor in when determining what size of elevator is best for both your current and future situations. Not only do you have to fit in the elevator, but if you have a wheelchair, your home elevator has to accommodate that as well.

Smaller elevator car interiors will usually be around nine square feet. This isn’t going to give you enough space if you use a wheelchair or if you need another person with you at all times.

To be absolutely sure you get the right size of home elevator, your best bet will be to consult with an elevator installation company. They’ll know the best way to utilize the space around your house so you can get the elevator that’s best for your home’s dimensions.
