URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

In this article, we take an in-depth focus on the shaftless elevator, how to use it, and its benefits.

What Is A Shaftless Elevator?

A shaftless elevator is a compact residential elevator meant to fit into your home by taking up little space. Unlike other elevators, these types are quicker to install and don’t create too much interruption. Furthermore, they are an excellent alternative to full-size elevators or wheelchair lifts.

These elevators are incredibly popular due to their  quicker manufacturing and installation and convenience of use. Larger size versions are also available that can accommodate small walkers and wheelchairs. In addition, shaftless elevators are a fantastic and cost-effective option for two-story houses as they are easily operated and maintained.

How To Install Shaftless Elevators

Shaftless elevators slightly differ in design options and function than traditional elevators. The most common design is the one where the rails are attached to a wall for support. Nonetheless, shaftless elevators are one of the easiest elevators set up in your home. The elevator’s exterior side sensors and “push and hold” buttons on the control panel are the main functional buttons in the shaft-less design. They are, however, only designed to travel to two floors.

Advantages Of Shaftless Elevators

  • Although small, some can fit wheelchairs and walkers. This makes the elevators an excellent option for people with mobility limitations.
  • It’s possible to put it in place with an open floor plan.
  • Budget-friendly (no machine room)
  • Installation is quick and straightforward (no shaft or machine room means less installation time)

Safety

Shaftless elevators rely on constant pressure controllers to be operational. You must press and hold the control button in the operating position to have the elevators running. If the control button is disengaged while traveling, the lift will come to a complete halt.

In addition, these elevators feature sensors installed on the top and bottom of the lift cabin to detect any snag. If any object collides with one of these permanent sensors, the lift will come to a complete halt. The cabin doors are additionally equipped with an interlock that prevents the elevator from moving until the door is securely closed and locked.
