COVID-19 Notice

Preferred Elevator would like to assure our customers that we are taking all necessary steps to do our part in flattening the curve of COVID-19. We have developed a “No Family Contact” process for service, repairs and installations. Our Mechanic, who will be wearing a mask and gloves, will call you when we are at your front door and will discuss the issues or concerns you have with your unit. Our customer can then unlock the door, but there is no need to further greet the Mechanic or be present for the service, repair or installation. Please feel free to move to another part of the home while we are working. Final payment can be left for technician or can be done over the phone with our office.
We greatly appreciate your business during this time.

Sincerely,
Ken Gough

URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

Stairlifts: Signs That Your Parents May Need Them

Signs That Parents Need Stairlifts

Stairlifts can help out your aging parents tenfold

Stairlifts are one of the many devices that we offer that makes aging in place (staying at home) possible. Aging is an inevitable and natural part of life. Parents are often concerned about their children as they grow into adulthood. Children are often worried about their parents as they age as well. It’s hard to think about parents becoming older, but it’s necessary to think ahead and to plan for the future. There are some telltale signs that your parents may need some extra assistance as they age, and we’re here to share them today. Here are the top signs that your parents may need a stairlift

Do Your Parents Put Off Taking the Stairs?

If you notice that your parent puts off taking the stairs, then it is a telltale sign that a stairlift should be in their home. In the most extreme case, you may notice that your parent sleeps on the couch or recliner more often than before, or they avoid going upstairs for a long time, possibly just tackling the stairs once or twice per day. You may also see that your parent rarely comes out of their bedroom. They may be in a lot of pain while taking the steps and may not want to tell you. It’s normal for older people to have a fear of losing their independence. Let them know that using a stairlift will give them more freedom, not less.

Is the House Noticeably Untidy?

If your mom or dad has always kept a clean house and that it’s starting to look unkempt, this could be a red flag. Do you see laundry piling up or way more dust than ever before? What this could mean is that using the steps could be uncomfortable or even painful for your parents. When this is the case, it may motivate them less to take care of daily household chores and tasks. Stairlifts can help alleviate some pain and tension on the body, making it easier to get downstairs and live life as before.

Have Your Parents Fallen Lately? And Often?

If your parent falls, stumbles, or trips, even while not using the steps, you should strive to find a solution. Tripping on a flat surface may not be as dangerous, but a fall on the stairs can cause major injuries and health issues. Click here for a CDC report on the impact of falls on the brain.

Most importantly, if your parent is expressing how much pain they’re in doing daily tasks, this is a red flag that life needs to be made easier. Reach out to us today to learn more about how our lifts can positively affect anyone’s life.
