URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

How To Make Your Home Safe For Seniors

How could you household benefit from a stairlift?

Seniors should be able to travel around safely in your home.

It is crucial that you or a loved one can travel around your home safely and easily as you age.  Although, for some seniors , getting around their home might not be as easy as it once was if they are dealing with any mobility issues.  If you are living with a senior, you should make their living situation as safe and peaceful as possible.  There are a few simple ways you can upgrade your home so it is a safe living space for any senior.

Stairlift

As you or a loved when gets older, walking up and down your stairs might start to be a difficult task.  Some seniors start to develop health issues that can affect their mobility such as arthritis and osteoporosis.  If moving up and down the stairs is unavoidable for them, then you should install a stairlift as soon as possible.  Stairlifts are very simple to operate, and anyone can travel in them safely.  You can find stairlifts that will be able to maneuver along any variety of different staircases.

No-Step Entryways

One of the biggest obstacles for seniors, especially those with mobility issues, are steps both outside and inside your home.  If at all possible, try to create an entryway for senior that avoids steps and steep slopes.  Outside steps made out of stones or concrete pose a threat and can cause a dangerous accident.  If you cannot avoid entering your home using steps, then you should invest in a ramp which is necessary for anyone bound to a wheelchair.

Handrails and Grab Bars

One of the simplest ways to increase safety for seniors in their home is adding handrails and grab bars to a variety of areas.  You should have sturdy handrails along staircases and hallways for when a senior is walking around.  Make sure to add grab bars in the shower and the bedroom, so they are stable when they want to stand.
