COVID-19 Notice

Preferred Elevator would like to assure our customers that we are taking all necessary steps to do our part in flattening the curve of COVID-19. We have developed a “No Family Contact” process for service, repairs and installations. Our Mechanic, who will be wearing a mask and gloves, will call you when we are at your front door and will discuss the issues or concerns you have with your unit. Our customer can then unlock the door, but there is no need to further greet the Mechanic or be present for the service, repair or installation. Please feel free to move to another part of the home while we are working. Final payment can be left for technician or can be done over the phone with our office.
We greatly appreciate your business during this time.

Sincerely,
Ken Gough

URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

How To Prepare Your Elevator For The Winter

Learn how to prepare your elevator for the winter season.

It is the middle of December and winter weather has already hit Maryland.  Cold weather can be damaging to mechanical devices such as cars and elevators.  Whether you have an elevator in your home or use one at work, it is critical that you do not forget about winter maintenance.  You don’t want to put passengers at risk because you didn’t go through the proper maintenance steps.  Luckily, there are a few simple ways to prepare your elevator so that it lasts through the winter and into spring.

Climate Control

During the winter, cold weather can cause the temperature of the hydraulic oil in your elevator to drop leading to issues.  It is critical that the hydraulic oil in your elevator is at a temperature ranging from 85 to 96 degrees Fahrenheit.  You need to keep your machine climate controlled or have the professionals at Preferred Elevator install a tank heater that controls the hydraulic oil temperature.  A tank heater will last you throughout the winter season into the spring.

Lubrication

It is common for cold weather to dry out the lubricant on your elevator guide rails causing friction between the rails and the elevator.  You will likely hear a strange loud noise if your guide rails are dry.  If this occurs, all you need to do is contact the professionals at Preferred Elevator to lubricate the steel rails.

Battery

During the winter, snow storms and blizzards are common which can cause power outages.  If you have a backup battery system installed, your elevator will still function in the event of a power outage. If you have a backup battery, make sure it is working properly and is fully charged.
