COVID-19 Notice

Preferred Elevator would like to assure our customers that we are taking all necessary steps to do our part in flattening the curve of COVID-19. We have developed a “No Family Contact” process for service, repairs and installations. Our Mechanic, who will be wearing a mask and gloves, will call you when we are at your front door and will discuss the issues or concerns you have with your unit. Our customer can then unlock the door, but there is no need to further greet the Mechanic or be present for the service, repair or installation. Please feel free to move to another part of the home while we are working. Final payment can be left for technician or can be done over the phone with our office.
We greatly appreciate your business during this time.

Sincerely,
Ken Gough

URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

3 Tips To Making Your Home Wheelchair Accessible

Wheelchair

Learn how to make your home accessible to wheelchair users.

Whether you or a loved one needs a wheelchair to travel from place to place, you shouldn’t have to struggle to navigate around your home.  Being bound to a wheelchair shouldn’t stop you from going up and down the stairs and enjoying your entire home.  Advantages in technology have made it simple for those with a mobile disability to travel throughout their home easily.  There are a few tips you can follow so that you can make your home wheelchair accessible.

Installing a Lift or Elevator

If you live in a home that has steps outside, is on a slope or that has a deck on the front or back, you still need to enter and exit while using your wheelchair.  Investing in a stairlift or wheelchair lift makes it quick and easy to enter your home. If your home has multiple levels that you need to access once you are inside, you can install a lift or elevator inside of your home. You should not be forced to give up a portion of your own home due to a mobility issue.

Widen Doorways and Halls

When using a wheelchair, you need to be able to ride through your doorways and halls without any difficulty.  According to the Americans with Disabilities Act, a home door frame needs to be at least 32 inches to accommodate a wheelchair-bound person, although you may want to go wider depending on the wheelchair you have.

Kitchen and Bath Design

Being able to stay in your home and in your neighborhood is a big concern for most people. There are many design options that will enable a wheelchair bound person to be able to live comfortably, and safely in their home for as long as they see fit. Lowering countertops, installing easy to reach appliances, faucets and roll under sinks are a few great modifications.
