COVID-19 Notice

Preferred Elevator would like to assure our customers that we are taking all necessary steps to do our part in flattening the curve of COVID-19. We have developed a “No Family Contact” process for service, repairs and installations. Our Mechanic, who will be wearing a mask and gloves, will call you when we are at your front door and will discuss the issues or concerns you have with your unit. Our customer can then unlock the door, but there is no need to further greet the Mechanic or be present for the service, repair or installation. Please feel free to move to another part of the home while we are working. Final payment can be left for technician or can be done over the phone with our office.
We greatly appreciate your business during this time.

Sincerely,
Ken Gough

URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

The Ultimate Guide to Shaftless Elevators

preferred elevator guide to shaftless elevators

Shaftless elevators can be a unique addition to any home.

Usually, elevators are enclosed in a vertical pathway known as an elevator shaft. But that is not the case with shaftless elevators. This article discusses the definition, operation, safety, and reasons to use shaftless elevators.

What Are Shaftless Elevators?

As the name indicates, shaftless elevators are smaller lifts that are not supported by a shaft. Instead, these elevators do not need a pit, machine, or pre-construction for support. Conversely, they need a leveled floor and a load bearing wall to self-support. Further, they do not require considerable building modification and construction during installation. Therefore, shaftless home elevators can be installed in homes with limited spaces.

As a result, they give a chance to owners of any size home to enjoy easy and faster movement between two floors in their houses. Shaftless elevators are available in various designs, including slightly bigger ones with wider doors to accommodate wheelchairs.

How Do Shaftless Elevators Work?

There are three main parts of a shaftless elevator:

  • Control panel button
  • Pressure sensors
  • Interlock feature

The operator presses and holds the control button for the lift to keep moving. If you release the control panel, the pressure pushing the lift subdues, and the elevator automatically stops. The sensors recognize any hindrance and instantly prevent motion, while the interlock attribute enables the lift to start moving when the door is closed.

Are Shaftless Elevators Safe?

As pointed above, shaftless elevators have features that detect obstacles and prevent accidents. In addition, the elevators have been approved for home use in all fifty states. That said, it is always good to inquire from the dealer and do your due diligence.

Reasons To Choose Shaftless Elevators

If you are looking for foolproof reasons to install shaftless elevators in your home, consider:

  • The little space that they require because machine rooms and pits are unnecessary
  • High levels of safety
  • Customization options are available
  • The number of designs and models available to choose from depending on your specifications
  • The little construction needed
  • Easy setup
