COVID-19 Notice

Preferred Elevator would like to assure our customers that we are taking all necessary steps to do our part in flattening the curve of COVID-19. We have developed a “No Family Contact” process for service, repairs and installations. Our Mechanic, who will be wearing a mask and gloves, will call you when we are at your front door and will discuss the issues or concerns you have with your unit. Our customer can then unlock the door, but there is no need to further greet the Mechanic or be present for the service, repair or installation. Please feel free to move to another part of the home while we are working. Final payment can be left for technician or can be done over the phone with our office.
We greatly appreciate your business during this time.

Sincerely,
Ken Gough

URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

The Benefits of Adding a Dumbwaiter To Your Home

Discover the many benefits of residential dumbwaiters!

Discover the many benefits of residential dumbwaiters!

Are you looking for a unique way to upgrade your home in 2019? Adding a dumbwaiter to your Maryland or Washington, DC home offers a variety of benefits and uses you will love for years to come. Dumbwaiters are small freight elevators that are used to carry objects from floor to floor. While they cannot carry people, they can make a huge difference in day-to-day tasks. Along with their use in homes, dumbwaiters are useful for restaurants, schools, hospitals, retirement homes, and assisted living facilities. Often, the system is operated using a pulley system that transports items throughout the shaft to different floors, much like a traditional elevator but on a smaller scale. Being a unique feature, dumbwaiters can be a great selling feature in your home, and they can add value, making them a significant investment if and when you eventually sell your home.

Transporting Items

While in an office or hospital you might use a dumbwaiter to transport paperwork and essential items, it can be used for all sorts of items. In your home, you might use your dumbwaiter to transport laundry from throughout your room easily or to move cleaning supplies as you work your way through each floor. You may also find it easier to transport groceries from your garage entrance to your kitchen. It is a great way to move heavy and cumbersome items throughout your residence.

Minimize Physical Strain

One of the more common injuries that people of all ages face come from the strain of carrying a too heavy item, especially when stairs are involved. A dumbwaiter is a perfect solution. The physical strain of carrying an item is significantly reduced. This is great for almost everyone but especially older people, those with limited mobility, and those who might be pregnant. If you are hoping to age-in-place, having a dumbwaiter can help make your home livable for longer as you will be less limited by stairs.

Highly Efficient

If you could eliminate unnecessary trips how much more efficient would you be? If you cut down the time needed to get from floor to floor, you can save time and effort and get your work done faster and easier. Imagine how much more time you could spend on fun rather than chores!

Space

Unlike a traditional elevator, a dumbwaiter only uses a minimal amount of space. In fact, if you live in an older home with a laundry chute or similar feature, you may be able to have the space remodeled to be a small version of a dumbwaiter. Even when built new, they take up little space and don’t have much effect on the architecture and interior design of your home.

Require Little Maintenance And Regulatory Requirements

Thanks to the small size, uncomplicated design, and relatively low weight limit, a dumbwaiter doesn’t require very much maintenance and support. Because of this, the costs after installation are  minimal. They also do not require as many inspections as they are never used for carrying passengers.
