URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

How To Care For Your Home Elevator

Learn how to care for your home elevator.

There may come a time in your life when a home elevator will become a necessity in your life.  Home elevators are perfect fixtures for the elderly and those with a mobile disability.  If you decide to install an elevator inside your home, you need to know how to take care of it properly.  You have the option to sign up for an annual service agreement, which includes a yearly inspection and maintenance service.  It is important that you know to how to maintain and care for your elevator throughout the years.

Know The Weight Limits

When it comes to caring for your home elevator, it is important to know the weight capacity limits for the structure.  It is best not to transport people or items that weigh more than a quarter of the maximum capacity weight of your elevator.  So depending on the size of your elevator, you want to limit the amount of people that travel at one time. The last thing you want is for the mechanisms in your elevator to wear and put you at risk for a major repair.

Inspect and Repair

It is important to perform regular inspections on your elevator to ensure that it is working properly.  Our 60-point examination will catch any issues before they turn into major, and costly repairs. You want to be aware of any unusual sounds or movements your elevator makes.  If you notice anything irregular, make sure to keep it in a log and contact Preferred Elevator immediately. Preferred Elevator offers 24/7 emergency service when you sign up for an annual service agreement.

How To Clean

One of the most important aspects of home elevator maintenance is cleaning.  You want to make sure that the car itself and all of the mechanisms are clean, and dust is not building up on any of the components. However, it is essential that you are not using any industrial cleaning or products with harsh chemicals.  The last thing you want is to wear down the belt and chains of your elevator.
