COVID-19 Notice

Preferred Elevator would like to assure our customers that we are taking all necessary steps to do our part in flattening the curve of COVID-19. We have developed a “No Family Contact” process for service, repairs and installations. Our Mechanic, who will be wearing a mask and gloves, will call you when we are at your front door and will discuss the issues or concerns you have with your unit. Our customer can then unlock the door, but there is no need to further greet the Mechanic or be present for the service, repair or installation. Please feel free to move to another part of the home while we are working. Final payment can be left for technician or can be done over the phone with our office.
We greatly appreciate your business during this time.

Sincerely,
Ken Gough

URGENT SAFETY NOTICE

Elevators installed with more than 4 inches of “gap space” between the hoistway doors and the elevator car doors can pose a serious safety risk. Children may become entrapped in the space and could be seriously injured or killed. This risk can be reduced with the proper installation of space guards at each floor.

3 Home Safety Tips For Seniors

Learn how to be safe in your home as you age.

It is not uncommon for your home to become potentially hazardous as you age.  Mobility and other health issues can make it difficult for an older adult to travel around their home.  Whether you are a senior that lives alone or has an in-home caretaker, you should be able to navigate around your living space easily.  Luckily, there are a few simple tips seniors can follow so that they can live in their home safely.

Focus On Stairs

When it comes to improving the safety of your home, you should start by focusing on the staircases in your home.  Walking up and down stairs can be difficult for a senior, especially if they have mobility or respiratory issues. One of the most effective ways to make stairs accessible for a senior is to install a stairlift.  All you have to do is sit down in the lift, push the button, and the equipment takes you up and down your stairs safely. If you can walk up and down steps, make sure you attach sturdy railings on both sides so that you catch yourself if you happen to fall.

Light It Up

As we age, it can be more and more difficult to see clearly, especially at night.  So, it is essential that you are keeping your home well-lit during the day and night.  Make sure that your hallways and stairwells are well-lit so that you can avoid tripping over any items.  You want to invest in lamps and motion sensor lights that turn on when you enter a space.

Clear The Floor

It is critical that you are removing any items that you could possibly trip and fall over.  You want to remove any clutter or wires from your floor. You also want to replace throw rugs or mats with pieces that have a rubber, non slip backing.  The last thing you want is to trip and fall leading to a serious injury that will force you to leave your home
